A few years ago, my husband suggested we keep backyard chickens. Growing up on a hobby farm, he had fond memories of raising chickens and pheasants. We felt it would be a step in the right direction in keeping our food local, as well as an experience our family could enjoy together. We took the plunge and the four of us quickly became intrigued with our hens, Mary and Lucy. Our ladies were full of personality which made them quite entertaining!  As time has progressed, we continue to enjoy keeping chickens. As an added bonus, we know where our food comes from...right outside our door! We look forward to sharing such a rewarding experience with others in our community through Our Backyard Chicken.
